Various discussions, studies, and ethical problems are formed around the topic of child abuse. Child abuse, defined by the Child Abuse Prevention and Treatment Act (CAPTA), is â€Å"any recent act or failure to act on the part of a parent or caretaker which results in death, serious physical or emotional harm, sexual abuse or exploitation†; or â€Å"an act or failure to act which presents an imminent risk of serious harm.† (Gateway, 2013) This leaves a large area for speculation on whether situations are covered under this definition. Nonetheless, child abuse is an unfortunate and growing problem in society today. With several causes such as poverty, parents who do not know any differently, and behavioral issues. These are all areas that social workers deal with on a day to day basis. Why child abuse? There are many outlooks involving values that form social work through ethical, personal, and professional. As far as ethically, social work can become very challenging for the social worker themselves.
